Hard Rock Café Dubai is giving local rockers the chance to perform in Barcelona through Hard Rock Rising, a battle of the bands competition. Starting on April 1, 2015, the competition will host a series of live battle events where undiscovered local talent will vie for the chance to move on to the regional phase of the competition and participate in a final live showdown in Barcelona in July. Each city winner will receive a cash prize of US$1,000 and one grand prize winner will win a spot on the main stage at the first-ever Hard Rock Rising Barcelona global music festival.
The Dubai venue will host several preliminary battle events where local bands Carl & the Reda Mafia, When the Night Comes, Xalbaje, Up the Ante, Daisygrim and Jeff Maximum will be judged by a panel of local industry experts. McGettigan’s JLT will play host to five-piece Irish band Hermitage Green for the first time in the UAE on Friday April 3. The group’s debut EP, ‘The Gathering’, went to number one in the iTunes chart in 2012 and they’ve played alongside Mumford and Sons, Josh Ritter and The Pogues.
Critically acclaimed Irish comedian Jason Byrne returns to Dubai on April 23 at The Baggot in McGettigan’s JLT. The funnyman first travelled to Dubai to take part in the inaugural McGettigan’s Comedyfest and headlined the four-day comedy marathon in 2011.
