We dig up the juicy rumours, new openings and hot events in Dubai’s music and nightlife scene

Dubai Music Week (DMW) 2015 is back in September and will include live concert performances by British pop singer Ellie Goulding. Taking to the stage on Thursday September 24 at the Dubai World Trade Centre, Goulding has amassed more than six million album sales and 20 million single sales worldwide. Her latest hits include ‘Love Me Like You Do’, soundtrack for the movie adaptation of Fifty Shades of Grey. Thirty Seconds to Mars who were scheduled to perform back in April, will be performing on Friday September 25. Names of two more music heavyweights for the concert nights as well as world-renowned celebrity guest speakers and hosts for the masterclasses will be released in the coming weeks. Keep an eye on www.timeoutdubai.com for exclusive announcements.

Elsewhere on the music scene, Movida Dubai has officially opened its doors after being fully refitted with a new interior. Frequent clubgoers will notice changes to the layout and design, which includes a state-of-the-art Function One sound system installation, Madrix lighting fixtures, a whole new dancefloor, DJ booth and raised backstage area. The club has also introduced a new weekly night every Friday called ‘Hip Hop by Nature’. The event will see Universal-signed artist and urban DJ Bliss playing a mix of hip-hop and R&B.

Other new nights around town include performances by a live saxophone player every Friday from 8pm to 11pm at Soul Restaurant & Bar, Mövenpick Hotel JBR. With the sports season in full swing, Biber Lounge at Rixos the Palm is offering some pretty decent food and drinks deals. Guests can enjoy four bottles of hops and four mini burgers during any live match for Dhs200 per person.
