5 questions for Fatboy Slim

We get to know Norman Cook - aka Fatboy Slim - before his Dubai gig December 18

1 How do you think Pacha in Dubai will compare to Pacha in Ibiza?
I’ve played Pacha in Ibiza so many times I know the place and the vibe. Dubai is a unique place and I’ve only ever done outdoors events there, so we’ll see.

2 Pacha is known for visual and acrobatic performances. Does that affect how you play?
Performers either really get into what you’re doing and complement your show, or you get moody ones who look at you like, why are you playing this? – I can play what I want!

3 What do you listen to?
If I’m not working, I listen to scratchy old blues records just to clear my palate.

4 What does 2016 hold for you?
I’ve just been working on music for a film with Idris Elba. It’s a world away from my day job. With film music, you’re triggering more emotion rather than just the desire for escapism.

5 How do you know which tunes trigger escapism?
I look at the crowd and something will strike me about where to go next. That’s the greatest talent a DJ can have.
