1 How did you start DJing?
I started out as a producer. I was heavily into hip-hop and then a friend of mine introduced me to electronic music and from then on, I was like, I am only making this. The DJing helped me get my music out there.
2 You’re from a famous family; Will Smith is your dad. Has that been a help or hindrance?
It’s been both. Now that I’m older, I’m starting to see the good more. It was hard being in that family. There were times I felt alienated or not worthy enough and that was hard, but I am growing out of that and it’s all love. I love my family more than anything and I wouldn’t be where I am without them.
3 What are your tips for being a good DJ?
Come with a welcoming energy, read the crowd, pay attention to people’s emotions and have fun.
4 Is DJing something you can learn or is it instinctive?
I have to be hands-on. I just have to do it, stay on my grind and have a good mentor.
5 Does your family like your music?
I hope so. They’ve always been honest with me and I value their opinions.
