Moroc His & Hers night - review

Time Out Dubai has a review of Moroc His & Hers night, a Ladies Night in Dubai with a twist, in so much as there are free drinks for men, too

There is no shortage of bars, clubs and restaurants offering free drinks for the city’s womenfolk, but the number offering the same – or even generous discounts – to men pales in comparison. Enter Moroc at the Mövenpick Ibn Battuta Gate, which is beating a path to equality every Tuesday night, with two free glasses of red, white or fizzy grape for all, regardless of the configuration of your chromosomes. And it’s not a bad spot to enjoy them in.

Stroll through the intimate interior of the hotel bar and make your way to the expansive outdoor terrace and Moroc’s real selling point. With three distinct levels and seating areas, join the bustle on the main deck by the (incredible-smelling) barbecue and bar, shield yourself from the elements under the central pagoda or scoot round into the far, upper corner for a quiet chat.

Staff are charming and service is speedy (they’re also heroically forthcoming with little bowls of crisps – ideal if you’ve braved rush hour on the Metro to get there). While the red grape that we sipped on our last trip wasn’t the best, the price is hard to argue with. And when served in such a relaxing setting, it’s unlikely to get in the way of our imminent return.

The bottom line
A bargain night out in an underrated, laid-back setting.
Tue 7pm-10pm. Moroc, Mövenpick Ibn Battuta Gate Hotel Dubai (04 444 000004 444 0000).
