As Dubai gears up for the queen of R&B to land in Dubai, Time Out Dubai heads to the Autism Rocks Arena to get an exclusive look at the brand new - albeit temporary - outdoor concert space.

Located next to Dubai Outlet Mall, it is expecting 10,000 visitors on Friday March 25, to see Nicki Minaj bring her Superbass to town.

The pop-up stage will stay for 18 months until the permanent outdoor concert venue is ready for launch in 2017, and it expecting to welcome a host of musicians from around the world this year.

"We built this temporary venue in less than three months," 117 Live CEO, Thomas Eveson told Time Out Dubai. "And let’s be honest, it’s pretty incredible. So it should be, with two massive shows planned back-to-back."

He stated that while all the groundwork and focus is currently on putting final touches to this temporary venue, the permanent one, located directly across Al Ain Road, will change the game of live concerts in the region.

“The permanent venue will be a very different structure to what you will see over the next few months, where we have 20 VVIP box suites. While we’ve put together the Autism Rocks Arena for Dhs12million, you can expect the permanent one to be the best Dubai has seen. Its 25,000 capacity will include a nightclub, a fine-dining restaurant, 50 VIP private booths and a massive air-conditioned structure which will be able to house 6,000 concert goers.”

*Tickets for both concerts are available on 117Live.com and at all Virgin Megastore outlets.*

Autism Rocks Arena is currently receiving the finishing touches to the lighting and staging ahead of the weekend's concert, and the subsequent Autism Rocks Live festival on April 1, headlined by Tyga and Flo Rida.

Co-organised by 117 Live and Autism Rocks, the family-filled day will include a range of activities such as laser tag, mini golf, zip lining, petting zoo and more. There are also several organic and healthy food trucks scheduled to pop-up. Shuttle buses will operate through the night ferrying fans to town.

“Production wise, there is nothing overly ambitious planned for Nicki Minaj’s concert. It’s not going to be a Justin Bieber-type concert with any bells and whistles. Nicki will have a regular stage set, while Flo Rida and Tyga will have a band and a DJ on set,” said Malcolm Giles, Head of Production.

“There’s going to be a ramp erected for both weekends. However Nicki’s production people requested for things that just aren’t feasible out here. They wanted the stage to pop up, but no one in the region has the capacity to do that yet. Not in this temporary space at least.”

The April 1 event is being held to mark Autism Awareness Month and tickets for the event are for Dhs50. Sanjay Shah, founder of Autism Rocks, noted, "Autism Rocks is proud to partner with the best and most experienced live music team in Dubai. We look forward to many awesome concerts at the Arena starting with Nicki Minaj.

"Our family fun day on April 1 is in celebration of the United Nations’ World Autism Awareness Day."

*Tickets for both concerts are available on 117Live.com and at all Virgin Megastore outlets.*
