Avicii live in Dubai review

Time Out checks out Avicii live in Dubai, at World Trade Centre, April 1 2016, taking place after he announced retirement

Two years after being forced to cancel a hugely anticipated set at Atlantis The Palm, leaving UAE fans’ hearts in tatters, Avicii (real name Tim Bergling) finally touched down in Dubai.

It was an unexpectedly poignant and bittersweet night for the divisive Swedish DJ’s devoted audience, with his hugely anticipated Dubai set coming hot on the heels of the revelation that after half a decade playing across the globe, he will retire from touring at the end of 2016, at the ripe old age of 26.

In the spirit of all the greatest goodbyes, Avicii didn’t hold back. When he finally took to the decks in front of almost 10,000 fans at Dubai World Trade Centre, for two thrilling hours revellers were treated to a medley of hits, both old and new, ranging from new drops such as ID (Without You) to ubiquitous chart hits including Hey Brother. Even fans berating themselves for wearing the wrong shoes couldn’t help but rave along – blisters or no blisters.

Dhs395. Fri April 1, from 9pm. Dubai World Trade Centre, Sheikh Zayed Road.

The bottom line
A fittingly sweet goodbye.
