Yasalam Emerging Talent Competition 2016 launched

Time Out has the news as the Yasalam Emerging Talent Competition 2016 launched ahead of the F1 Abu Dhabi Grand Prix and its musical sidekick

The annual Yasalam Emerging Talent Competition to find the best musicians, singers and bands in the country is back.

In its second year, this UAE-wide, free-to-enter talent search is now open for registration. Entry includes sending a SoundCloud profile, a link to the artist’s YouTube page and other social media handles.

Registration closes on September 24, after which 10 artists will be shortlisted and mentored by UAE’s top music artists and producers. Then three finalists will take the prestigious stage at 2016’s Beats on the Beach, annual free-entry concert series on Abu Dhabi Corniche, where the winner of Emerging Talent Competition 2016 will be announced.

The winner will also earn a residency at The Village in du Arena throughout Flash Entertainment’s 2016-2017 concert season, and mentorship and training from the competition’s judges and ambassadors.

Last year’s winning band, SOS (Secrecy over Supremacy), was an acoustic Arab hip-hip band, who have had quite a year after having performed at both Time Out Dubai Nightlife Awards 2016 and Time Out Abu Dhabi Nightlife Awards 2016. In the last few months, the boy band has also hosted club nights at Inka Dubai and opened the show for Wiz Khalifa’s live concert at Dubai International Stadium earlier this year.

Yasalam is the city-wide musical celebration that takes place in the run up to, and during the F1 Abu Dhabi Grand Prix, which this year takes place on Yas Island from November 25-27. The big news from it is the headline performances from Rihanna and The Chemical Brothers, with one more act to be confirmed soon.

Last year Blur, Florence And The Machine, and Enrique Iglesias played to 60,000 people at du Arena, while previous years have included Jay Z, Pharrell, Beyonce, The Who, Paul McCartney, Kylie Minogue, Eminem and Britney Spears.

Access to the main concerts is only available to those buying tickets for the race, qualifying or pre-qualifying. A three-day pass cost between Dhs1,000 and Dhs4,685, while last year's most luxurious package, that in Paddock Club, set fans back nearly Dhs20,000.
