Comedian Russell Peters will return to Dubai for two stand-up shows early next year.
The star set on a high benchmark on his last visits to the region, with the Notorious World Tour selling out not once but twice in 2012 and 2013. The same show broke other records around the globe, including a performance in Brooklyn hailed as the largest ever in the New York state.
This time around, Peters is bringing all new material in a show entitled Almost Famous. He will be at the Dubai World Trade Centre on January 19 and 20. As well as the UAE, the 'rock-star comedian' having ticked off Australia, New Zealand, the UK and parts of Asia. In Canada, his homeland, more than 150,000 tickets have already been sold for his shows.
Peters is renowned for his audience interaction with British newspaper The Guardian highlighting that around one-third of his current tour involves 'going after' those brave enough to sit in the first few rows.
He also isn't afraid to delve into ethnic issues - 'What style of Asian are you?' has been an opening gambit - and his 'tried-and-true style ... consists mostly of stream-of-consciousness storytelling' relatable to the audience.
'I like to interact with the front rows,' the 45-year-old explained recently. 'I use the interaction to take me from bit to bit. Some guys go on-stage with a script and don’t deviate from it. That’s not my style. I have my set and know what I want to cover; I just use the audience to move me in certain directions. It’s very collaborative and each show is unique.'
As well as stand-up, the Toronto-native has been a judge on American television's Last Comic Standing, and recently appeared in indy comedy hit film Chef.
The ‘Almost Famous World Tour’ will also feature Russell's Official Tour DJ; New York City's DJ Spinbad.
Tickets for the show go on sale on December 15 at midday, priced from Dhs250 to Dhs995. VIP booths are available for six people, priced at Dhs9,000 including drinks.
