One of America’s best-loved comedians is coming Dubai for the first time.
Gabriel Iglesias, whose hit TV show Fluffy Breaks Even has just been renewed for a second season on primetime US television, will take to the stage a Dubai World Trade Centre on June 3.
Set to draw on the best bits of the mockumentary that has made him a household name, the Californian’s unique blend of stand-up and sketches is sure to have fans hailing with laughter.
Described as ‘specialising in gentle observational comedy, enlivened by his flair for accents and sound effects’, the Washington Post called him ‘capable of finding humour anywhere’, which certainly bodes well for the UAE audience.
A powerhouse on social media, too, Iglesias’ 900,000 Twitter fans are regularly treated to his irreverent one-liners and soundbites.
In a recent interview with wegotthiscovered.com, the 39 year old revealed he took his greatest influence from comedians Robin Williams and Eddie Murphy, as well as Billy Crystal.
He added: “I like Chris Rock, too, and his fearlessness on stage, not so much his material because I don’t get political. I don’t get into that vein, but I’m a huge fan. Jim Jefferies I’m a big fan of, Joey Diaz I’m a big fan of, and all these guys that go into veins that I don’t touch because again I just try to keep the show broad, keep it friendly and don’t ruffle any feathers.
“Sometimes it sucks because every now and then I just want to go off the handle, but I gotta realize that’s not what people want to see from me.”
The show is being bought to town by the same team responsible for sell-out shows by Michael McIntyre, Jack Dee and Al Murray. The star will then head up to Singapore and Hong Kong.
