Mica Paris headlines jazz night at Irish Village

Irish Village celebrates 25 years of Dubai Duty Free Tennis with a night of jazz and blues

Mica Paris, Mud Morganfield and a tribute to Miles Davis will be the musical highlights at a night celebrating 25 years of the of Dubai Duty Free Tennis Championship.

The soulful night, part of the touring Jazzattak festival, is set for Friday, February 17 at the Irish Village and is a curtain-raiser for the landmark 25th tennis championships in the city.

The free concert – we always like typing that part – is just one more musical oomph in a month which already has headline performers at Redfest DXB and the Dubai International Jazz Festival.

Mica Paris is best known for soulful power ballads and her platinum-selling album So Good in 1988. Top 10 hit My One Temptation announced her onto the world stage and a string of hits followed in a career which has also included acclaimed acting roles and reality television appearances.

Also on the bill are Mud Morganfield (best known as the son of legendary blues performer Muddy Waters), El Trio (a rocking jazz threesome with collaborators including Prince, Ozzy Osbourne, Rod Stewart and Stevie Wonder), Sannie Fox (the rock and roll blues queen of South Africa) and rip-roaring Tarantino-inspired funk seven-piece The Diablos.

Adding a touch of jazzy authenticity to proceedings the Kenny Davey Quartet will perform a musical tribute to Miles Davis.
Free. Friday, February 17 from 3pm. Irish Village, Garhoud, www.theirishvillage.com (04 239 5000).
