The iconic musical Grease will be live in the Middle East for the first time this year, following a sold-out run at the UK’s Curve Theatre. The production will run from April 7-13 at Dubai World Trade Centre, and tickets start from Dhs150.
Originally composed by Jim Jacobs and Warren Casey, the musical rom-com shot to global fame after John Travolta appeared alongside Olivia Newton-John in the 1979 film, and follows a group of cool, quirky teens at Rydell High in 1950s Chicago. The plot revolves around a romance between the rebellious Danny and the innocent new girl Sandy during their senior year.
Full of quiffs, bomber jackets and leather pants, this electrifying musical has everything from classic teen crush drama, heart-warming friendships, peer pressure and even gang violence. There’s no shortage of rock n roll hits either, including the show’s most famous song Greased Lightning, alongside plenty of other hits like Summer Nights, Beauty School Drop Out and You’re the One That I Want.
Curve Chief Executive Chris Stafford and Artistic Director Nikolai Foster said, “Jim Jacobs and Warren Casey’s musical provides a gripping snapshot of a country on the cusp of social change, all set to one of the greatest rock ‘n’ roll scores ever written. We couldn’t be more thrilled our super-cool greasers will continue to entertain audiences in Dubai.”
