Following its launch in April, the anything-goes bingo night has seen its popularity surge, with monthly shows selling out quickly. Each event is full of old-school tunes, competitions, prizes and head-to-head battles, and is one of the biggest nights out to have hit Dubai in 2017. There are almost no rules in this no-holds barred bingo contest, except no flip-flops.
The show started off in the UK with one-off nights in venues across the country, before exploding into a national craze that has seen imitation events pop up at home and abroad. Dubai played host to the first international rendition of the night, which is now also hosted in Ibiza and as far afield as Australia.
We recently spoke to the co-founder of Bongo’s Bingo, Jonny Lacey, who believes the reason for the show’s rocketing popularity is its truly alternative feel.
“I think people can be a bit bored with straightforward club nights and gigs where generally the same thing is happening throughout the night,” said Lacey. “People don’t know what to expect, each night is different which makes everyone’s experience unique.”
