New Jamaican bar opens in Dubai’s DIFC

Sho Sho’s Caribbean Lounge brings Jamaican food to Dubai’s Financial Centre

The trend for Jamaican restaurants and bars continues in Dubai, with the opening of a brand-new venue in DIFC over the weekend.

Sho Sho’s Caribbean Lounge at Emirates Financial Towers in DIFC, is the latest in the line of ventures from the Caribbean island of Jamaica to throw open its doors, and if you head down tonight (Sunday August 27) from 7pm until 3am, you’ll get a special taster of the lounge’s menu.

Dishes have the looks of elegant presentation with fine dining flourishes. We suspect that Jamaica’s classic plates will all be present, but that some might be given an upmarket twist.

Sho Sho’s joins the Downtown Dubai restaurant and bar Ting Irie, and the Sheraton Grand’s Miss Lily’s, but is a smaller offering in a more intimate space.

It boasts a classic Jamaican colour scheme and pictures the island’s famous artists, art and the ubiquitous Jamaican flag on one wall.

We also like the unique placemats on tables. They’re old-school 12-inch vinyls with red, gold and green labels bearing the Sho Sho’s Caribbean Lounge logo. A nice touch.

A DJ pumps cool and contemporary reggae and hip-hop tunes, with a smattering of some classics you’d expect to hear at a bar boasting all-things Jamaican.

We’re also told that the Lounge will host regular guest DJs and performances, with Lisa Maffia of So Solid Crew fame due to perform in the coming weeks.

Sho Sho’s Caribbean Lounge feels like a cool, classy, contemporary spot, and certainly has a chilled out vibe. And if its opening night is anything to go by, it could attract a decent crowd.

Head down tonight for a taste of the Caribbean.
