Mumford & Sons added to Abu Dhabi F1 weekend

Chart-toppers join P!nk and Calvin Harris at the biggest party of the year

It’s just about time to get this show on the road – the massive Abu Dhabi F1 party just got even bigger after global chart-toppers Mumford & Sons joined an all-star musical line-up for the motor racing spectacular.

The mega-selling British band – who have sold millions of records cross the world and racked up a glut of awards during their glittering decade-long career – will be sharing the spotlight with superstar DJ Calvin Harris and American icon P!nk during the hotly-anticipated long F1 weekend as part of the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix next month.

Music lovers have been eagerly awaiting the blockbuster announcement ever since Harris and P!nk were confirmed for the capital’s biggest show of the year back in July.

It really has been a case of I will wait, I will wait for you – and it has been well worth it.

Mumford & Sons, who will perform on Saturday November 25, rose to acclaim back in 2009 with their breakthrough debut album, Sigh No More, which reached number two in both the UK and American charts before their follow-up Babel, soared to the top of the charts on both sides of the Atlantic.

The band’s second album remains the fastest selling rock album of the decade – making the talented four-piece the perfect fit for the high-octane finale to the F1 season.

The musical maestros are no strangers to big occasions, having filled stadiums on all continents and even playing a State Dinner at the White House for former US president Barack Obama.

The Yasalam after race concerts will be held from Thursday November 23 until Sunday November 26 (the day of the title-deciding race itself).

P!nk has been handed the honour of headlining the prestigious after-race concert on Sunday.

Calvin Harris, who has collaborated with some of the biggest names on the music scene during a hit-laden stint at the top, will get the party started in style by taking centre for the first Yasalam concert on Thursday night. The final Yasalam act will be announced by the end of October.

The massive sporting spectacular will be racing back into the spotlight this November, with an action-packed calendar of stage superstars, top DJs, emerging talents, glitzy post-race parties and, of course, a grid crammed with world-class driving talent all heading to Yas Marina.

Away from the Yasalam concerts at Du Arena, Brit star Craig David and rap icon Busta Rhymes will be among the big names taking to the decks during the F1 weekend, with both taking centre stage at the Yas Viceroy Hotel, overlooking the Yas Marina Circuit.

More than two million fans have enjoyed nearly 3,000 hours of live music from 138 live acts across Yas Island and the Corniche since the high-profile, free concert series was kicked into the gear for the first ever Abu Dhabi Formula One Grand Prix in 2009.

The race, which will be held for the ninth time this year from November 24-26, has provided plenty of thrills and spills on the track, too.

The traditional curtain-closer to the Formula One season was the scene for German racer Nico Rosberg’s first ever title triumph – as well as his last ever race as he announced his dramatic retirement from the sport – in 2016. Four-time world champion Sebastian Vettel claimed the first ever victory back in 2009 and in 2010 was the victor as the Yas Marina Circuit played host to its first ever title-decider.

In 2014, Lewis Hamilton sealed the second of his three F1 titles in a Grand Prix which was raced under double points rules for the first time.

Whether you’re a fervent Formula One fan, are coming along for the music or just want to rub shoulders with star-studded names during the glitziest time of the year in the UAE, the 2017 Abu Dhabi Formula One Grand Prix is already in pole position to deliver another incredible result.
