New Miami-style poolside bar Coco On 8 now open

Dubai Media City’s Dek On 8 relaunches

“Welcome to Miami, bienvenidos a Miami”, or so sung Will Smith in his ’90s hit pop song of the same name. Now you can make like you’re in the sunshine state’s most popular city thanks to a new Miami-inspired pool bar in Dubai Media City.

Coco on 8 has taken the place of Dek On 8 at Media One Hotel. The pool and bar area have had a swish makeover, and the result is a trendy new Media City hangout.

“This little slice of Miami is the latest edition to several openings within the hotel and it’s one to add to the list for post-work drinks, a chilled day at the pool, or a stylish night out with the girls,” says the team behind it.

The vibe promises to be cool and fun, with a carefully created menu of drinks and food.

The fresh new menu includes oysters, salads, the ever-trendy tuna poke, scallop ceviche, flatbreads, skewers of varying kinds (beef, chicken, prawn and halloumi) and more.

By day, Coco is all about the swimming pool and sunbathing, and you can grab yourself a day pass for Dhs75, which is fully redeemable on food and drinks.

By evening, there’s a range of themed nights, including a Latin night on Thursday and a brand-new ladies night on Wednesday.

Mademoiselle is a “trendy, chic evening for Dubai’s most glamorous”, and offers up unlimited bubbly from 8pm until midnight for just Dhs100.

Happy hour falls daily from 5pm to 8pm, where you’ll get drinks and small plates from Dhs30. The same deal is available from noon to midnight on a Saturday.

Finally Dek on 8’s Run The World ladies’ day continues at Coco, with a pool day from noon to 5pm offering up a selection of drinks and food for Dhs30 a piece. After sunset ladies’ can get three free drinks from 5pm to 10pm.

Coco’s new deck area comes soon after the relaunch of Garden on 8, which reopened recently with a new menu (substantial sounding dishes include pizzas, burgers and ribs, plus a “diet destroyers” dessert section) and a new look.

The area has been expanded to make the most of the outside area, plus there’s a brand-new indoor bar, which has a garden feel, too. Décor is on the kitsch yet cool side, complete with gnomes, fake grass and picnic-style benches.

There are plenty of big screens and some excellent new deals, including a daily happy hour from 6pm to 8pm, where you can get drinks from just Dhs25.

So from Miami to the garden, there are plenty of al fresco option at Media One this winter.
Open Sat-Wed noon-midnight; Thu-Fri noon-2am. Media One Hotel, Dubai Media City (04 427 1000).
