MUTEK, the popular Canadian festival of digital creativity and electronic music, is coming to Dubai for the first time ever next month.
The event will be held in Dubai form Thursday November 16 to Saturday 18, and the experience promises to be unlike anything the city has seen or heard before.
Founded in Montreal in 2000, MUTEK is dedicated to developing digital creativity in sound, contemporary electronic music and audio-visual art. Through its visionary artists, the festival attracts diverse audiences, including musos, tech enthusiasts, art-lovers and the curious.
Analog Room co-Founder Mehdi Ansari is the mastermind behind bringing this avant-garde event to the Middle East. As director on the project, he sees Dubai as ripe and ready to host a festival of this kind.
“As an organisation dedicated to the development of digital creativity in sound, music and audio-visual art, MUTEK is providing a platform for the most original and visionary artists currently working in their fields,” he says.
The first-ever MUTEK festival in Dubai will be headlined by international heavyweights in electronic music and audio-visual arts, including Jeff Mills, one of the most influential American names in techno, Russian audio-visual artist Dasha Rush and Spanish pianist Francesco Tristano, as well as local artists including Abri & The Dreamfleet, who will be releasing their new album at the festival.
Gigs will take place at the “Great Room” of the W Dubai in Al Habtoor City. The final show on the third day will host Dubai Design Week Closing party at d3.
There will also be interactive audio-visual shows, discussions and workshops taking place over the three days, which will be held at the SAE Institute in Dubai Knowledge village and the Auditorium of Knowledge Village.
This announcement adds to an already massive season of live music this year.
Take That will be playing at the Dubai Media City Amphitheatre on Thursday November 30.
There’s also the Ed Sheeran gig on Thursday November 23 at the Autism Rocks Arena, which the star says will still to go ahead despite his injuries.
Jennifer Lopez, Gorillaz, Stormzy, Status Quo, Rufus Wainwright, Elton John and loads more are also booked in to play live in Dubai this year.
So if avant-garde isn’t quite your thing, there’s still loads to look forward to. But if it is, and you’re a fan of all things digital, be sure to snap up your tickets to MUTEK on the quick.
