It’s the long-awaited arrival of a craft hops bar in JLT, and Axe House is due to officially open on Tuesday December 5.

Two months have passed since Cocktail Kitchen closed its doors, announcing its replacement would be this slightly grittier British pub. And while wholesome dishes, a friendly neighbourhood atmosphere and some casual craft hops have been promised, the team behind it says you can forget about standard Brit stereotypes, like red telephone boxes, Union Jacks, black cabs and bad teeth.

Instead, the bar is inspired by up and coming areas on London’s cultural scene, like Shoreditch, Dalston, Spitalfields and Hoxton.

Haven’t heard of those places? Don’t worry, there’s bound to be something for you. There’s a huge selection of hops, large enough for the team behind Axe House to confidently declare it “the widest craft hops selection in Dubai”. There will be daily happy hours, a weekly ladies’ night, Friday brunch, an all-day breakfast brunch on Saturday and plenty of dining deals on offer (the two brunches are due to launch in January).

Between 5pm and midnight on Tuesdays, ladies’ get four drinks for free, but everyone (gents included) get two for one on house drinks until midnight. Mixed groups will get a 50 percent discount on the entire menu. On Wednesday from 5pm until 10pm, you’ll get a complimentary bottle of grape with every sharing platter ordered, and the daily happy hour runs from noon until 8pm, with two-for-one on every drink at the bar.

For food you can expect menu items that reflect London’s diversity, like Notting Hill jerk chicken, Brick Lane tikka salmon, a “Day Trip to Brighton” seafood platter and the Portobello veggie burger.

For sports fans, there will be a 100-inch TV screen showing all the big sporting events, as well as a pool table, air hockey table and pong games.

This is one bar we can’t wait to check out, and will surely prove wildly popular with JLT residents alongside its neighbour, Nola.

Open Daily from noon-2am. Armada BlueBay Hotel, Cluster P, JLT (04 3999 577).
