Make the most out of the good weather by visiting the outdoor location Saturdays to Wednesdays from 4pm all week. Buy three tickets and get one free at Novo CinemasDina Maaty, 09 Apr 2019 08:09:36 +0400Families of four will get great savings on cinema tickets this spring break, just in time for all of those fantastic new releases. Visit any Novo Cinema Sundays to Wednesdays and get a free ticket for every three you buy.

So, if you were planning on watching Captain Marvel, Dumbo or any other big screen hit anytime from now until April 23 with the tribe, you’re in luck. Also, if you’re in the mood for a bit of a different movie snack (many moviegoers would argue that the best part of a trip to the cinema is the mountains of popcorn), you may want to head to Novo Dubai Festival City Mall.

For only Dhs7.50, you can get frozen popcorn. Yes, scientists have managed to create a tasty twist by deep freezing the kernels using liquid nitrogen, causing a “sensory explosion” in the process. The steaming popcorn gives off clouds of vapour when chewed and comes in two delicious flavours – salted and caramel.

The cinema reassures us it’s 100 percent safe to eat and is made by trained professionals from “food-grade liquid nitrogen”. The twist is added to the confection right before it is served as a “nitro shot”, flash freezing the popcorn in a matter of seconds and intensifying the flavour. We’re always up for trying new snacks – especially when they’re as futuristic as this.

Plus, with a spring break ticket offer, it seems like we'll be going to the movies more often to catch those new big screen hits.

Don’t miss BurJuman’s Space AdventureDina Maaty, 08 Apr 2019 05:42:23 +0400It’s on for two more weeks and you better hurry. We’re talking about BurJuman’s Space Adventure, which will take Dubai’s youngest astronauts on a journey to the stars from 2pm until 10pm daily.

At the intergalactic adventure, little travellers will orbit around the stars and planet, moonwalk through a 3D space tunnel and more. Cool kids ( will experience what it’s like to be weightless on the trampoline at the no-gravity zone (upside down, yes), after which they can take up the laser challenge. There’s also plenty of room for creativity at the Space Lab.

The best part is, apart from the showcase being free for kids aged four to 12, there are plenty of photo opportunities so social media-loving kiddies can get snapping and share the fun with all their friends – how exciting.

“Last year’s launch of the UAE’s National Space Programme has firmly put the development of science and technology at the heart of the government’s agenda. In acknowledgement of this initiative, we wanted to provide our own platform to inspire and encourage young people to want to play a pivotal role in shaping the future of their country," says BurJuman management.

"Through our Space Adventure activation, we hope to introduce children of all ages in a fun and interactive way to the marvels of space exploration."

Now we can finally have all of those space questions we had answered.

Al Barari is hosting a two-weekend family festival, 03 Apr 2019 07:59:19 +0400Luxury Dubai community Al Barari will open its private gardens to the public for a family Spring Festival, which will take place over two weekends from Friday April 12 until Saturday 13, and again on Friday April 19 until Saturday 20.

The festival will feature a packed entertainment programme for kids and adults alike. Little ones will hunt for treasure, searching far and wise across Al Barari’s blooming gardens. They can also take part in arts and crafts workshops and circus classes while Melodica Music Schools plays some live tunes.

“Since its inception, I’ve witnessed Al Barari nurturing the physical and emotional needs of its residents who take much pleasure from our waterfalls and sprawling grounds, a sanctuary of peace in our bustling city. I also maintain that engagement with nature is a crucial aspect of child development, helping the new generation to form a comprehensive understanding of our world,” said Nadia Zaal, CEO at Al Barari.

The Spring Festival will also comprise a petting zoo, complete with pony rides and vegetable patches for those tiny green fingers to dig up some organic veggies. Plus, a wellness pop-up market with fashion and food stalls featuring homegrown brands – and nostalgic games that will bring back the old times.

For those who are looking for a bit of Easter fun, the highlight of the event will be a giant, two-metre chocolate egg, which is set to be broken on the last day at 2pm – and there will be lots of prizes on offer, including a one night’s stay at Abu Dhabi’s Zaya Nurai Island.

“We’ve put together a thoughtful programme of events and activities aimed to educate, excite, entertain and most importantly provide a change for families to understand and engage with our unique, natural environment. I look forward to welcoming you into our exceptional setting,” Zaal added.

Walnut Grove to host Easter egg hunt with prizesDina Maaty, 03 Apr 2019 05:16:04 +0400South African eatery Walnut Grove will be hosting one sp-egg-tacular (sorry, not sorry) egg hunt for kids from Friday April 19 until Sunday 21. The restaurant will hide homemade chocolate eggs all over its City Walk branch and its new venue at The Dubai Mall.

Kids are invited to go on a hunt between 1pm and 4pm and stand a chance to win prizes including milkshakes, giant slices of cake and dinner vouchers for themselves and their families, too.

Walnut Grove’s new branch at The Dubai Mall opened in February, with heaps of exciting dishes on the new menu – for all three meals of the day. Breakfasts include burrata omelette, za’atar croissants and Nutella French Toast (we didn't say it was calorie-free, mind).

Meanwhile dinner and lunch options include Philly cheese steak sandwich, Casablanca salad Walnut truffle carbonara past, pistachio falafel burger, chicken Caesar wraps, pizzas and more.

There’s even a brand-new kids' menu so the whole family will be happy.

And if you’ve visited the City Walk branch, you’ll be expecting some monster-sized cakes. And you won’t be disappointed. Options include Nutella doughnuts, rocky road brownies, macaron, cupcakes and scones. With a “boutique bakery” on site, all Walnut Grove’s cakes and bread are freshly baked. You can even order full cakes.

Sounds like there are tonnes of sweet surprises waiting for us this Easter.

Souk Madinat Jumeirah to host free petting zooDina Maaty, 03 Apr 2019 05:12:24 +0400Plenty of furry friends are coming to Souk Madinat Jumeirah this weekend for what has to be one of the biggest petting zoos the city has ever seen.

The Central Courtyard will be home to a variety of animal species from Friday April 5 until April 6, and again from Friday April 19 until April 20.

At the free-entry event, kids will meet South American chinchillas, African tortoises, rabbits, an iguana, all sorts of parrots, hedgehogs, budgies, guinea pigs, ducks, white rats, goats and even a python (yes, that's the largest living snake).

The petting zoo has been set up with the aim of lowering stress levels for kids and the whole family and teaching little ones about love as they make new animal friends.

The two- and four-legged line-up will find its home in shaded play pens, so no need to worry about the weather.

Mums and Dads won't have to think about parking either, as they get two hours free when visiting, so that’s plenty of time to check out the zoo and grab a bite at any of Souk Madinat Jumeirah’s restaurants and cafés.

The family-friendly event will be held in association with mobile petting zoo Animal Care Centre, who's staff has over 15 years of experience in the field, so you can rest assured Souk’s newest visitors will be happy all weekend long.
