Pots, Pans & Boards hosts kids’ fashion showReema Rahman, 20 Jun 2019 04:56:12 +0400Does your little one think they’re the next Gigi Hadid or David Gandy?

If the answer to that is yes, head on down to Pots, Pans & Boards on Thursday June 27 between 3pm and 7pm and let them unleash their inner top model.

Time Out Dubai’s Best Breakfast spot is hosting its first-ever kids fashion show.

The popular family-friendly spot in JBR will be showcasing the latest kids’ collection from Swedish eco-friendly brand, Gardner and the Gang.

The new collection is called ‘Power or Dreams’ and budding fashionistas between the ages of three and ten will be able to show off their modelling skills. Once they’re all worn out from strutting their stuff they can take part in a cupcake workshop.

From British Michelin-starred chef Tom Aikens, popular beachside spot Pots, Pans & Boards is always heaving at the weekends, thanks to its family-friendly vibe, kids play area and proximity to the sands of JBR.

And in even better news, during the fashion show mums and dads can get 20 percent off the total bill and can enjoy British classics from salads to roasts and traditional mains and even an afternoon tea featuring mini sandwiches, homemade pastries and a selection of different teas.

Parents, it’s time to get the cameras ready.

VR Park launches three new family-friendly ridesAmy Mathieson, 19 Jun 2019 11:22:19 +0400Have kids that love virtual reality? There’s good news at VR Park in The Dubai Mall has now launched some brand-new family-friendly rides.

VR Park asks visitors to “challenge reality” and has a range of attractions including being a Ghostbuster in The Void as well as massive rollercoasters that make you feel like you’re falling off Burj Khalifa.

So far, so terrifying. But if you have family that wants to try out the park there are now even more at-tractions to try, and little ones won’t feel left out as there are three new rides to entertain them.

Cosmo Jet, Flying Chairs and Magic Bikes are now ready to try at the park in Downtown Dubai.

Cosmo Jet lets families embark on a space mission in a mini-space jet, in an interactive two-person ride. It has two joysticks and an interactive screen, so one player takes charge of how the vehicle moves, while the other has the joy of blasting aliens.

Magic bikes allows you to (virtually) fly – and the faster you pedal the higher you’ll go. Meanwhile Flying Chairs soars around to upbeat music.

For Dhs119 you can get seven rides at the theme park, and for Dhs169 you’ll get seven rides, plus Dhs100 credit.

It’s time to put on that VR headset.

Apple launches free summer camps for kidsTim Skinner, 18 Jun 2019 04:45:35 +0400If you feel like your kids are permanently attached to their tablets or smartphones, here's a way to benefit from it. Apple has launched a brand-new summer workshop that is designed to get little ones learning about how to code, and how to build a future in tech.

And the best part is that it’s entirely free.

Kids aged eight to 12 are encouraged to head along to the camp, which takes place at the Apple stores at The Dubai Mall and Mall of the Emirates over four consecutive weeks in July and August (starting on Monday July 8, with various dates and times available).

There are four different camps, all with various dates and times.

Kids will learn how to direct and edit their own movie in iMovie, using certain Apple software and devices – but they’ll learn how to find the angles and shots they want for their clips, then how to edit it together, and tell their story.

There’s also a design course where they’ll learn how to design their own park purely from their own imagination, while the GarageBand camp will teach kids how to create a song from scratch – including programming beats, creating melodies and riffs using smart instruments and the basics of rhythm.

Finally, there’s a coding camp where kids can programme Sphero robots (seriously, they’re really cool), and they’ll get to programme lights, sounds, movements and animations from their own little Sphero.

All devices are provided so there’s no basic requirements to take part, and it’s totally free.

British Orchard Nursery launches new story-themed summer campReema Rahman, 17 Jun 2019 10:08:49 +0400To quote Alice Cooper, school's (nearly) out for summer.

If you’re a parent wondering how you’re going to keep the little ones entertained during the long summer-stretch, British Orchard Nursery is hosting a nine-week summer camp that’s guaranteed to keep them busy.

The theme for this year is “Summer Stories” and little campers will be able to dive into the world of adventure and imagination through rhyming stories from award-winning author Julia Donaldson AKA the brains behind bestseller, The Gruffalo.

Each week will host a different theme and each central theme aims to teach children valuable life lessons.

From The Snail and The Whale (a snail who is determined to explore the world and his unusual partnership with the whale), which aims to inspire little ones to follow their dreams as well as teach them about friendship and loyalty, to the story of Tiddler this fish whose adventures will hopefully help boost their own creativity and imagination, there’s load of lessons to be learned.

The camp is open to all children aged one to four years old and will run from Sunday June 30 until Thursday August 29 across all 20 branches around the UAE. Parents can choose between the half-day camp from 8am until 2pm or the full-day camp that goes on until 6pm and transportation is also included.

So, what are you waiting for? Book your kids in for nine weeks of fun, storytelling, creative and educational activities and many more concepts of the British National Curriculum.

UAE school summer break dates announced, 13 Jun 2019 08:43:51 +0400The summer break dates for schools in the UAE have been officially announced.

The holidays begin on Thursday July 4, lasting until Saturday August 31, according to the Ministry of Education.

It’s the third and final term for schools following the government curriculum (including all public schools and some private schools) as well as the majority of international private schools.

With several schools holding exams in June, many students have opted to use the long Eid break to revise.

However, for Indian and Pakistani schools, the KHDA has noted that their summer break begins from the 30th of June.

Schools in the UAE follow a unified calendar — but they are allowed to adjust dates for school opening, closing and holidays by a small margin.
