Fairmont Ajman launches new spaReema Rahmanhttps://www.timeoutdubai.com/sport-wellbeing/410276-fairmont-ajman-launches-new-spaSun, 14 Jul 2019 08:03:36 +0400If you’re looking for an excuse to visit one of the northern emirates, we’ve got the one for you.

Fairmont Ajman is launching a new spa as part of its ongoing effort to support health and wellness.

The spacious spa is spread across 970 sq m and includes nine treatment rooms, one couples’ suite, a nail and hair area, saunas, steam rooms and even a private hammam room.

It is a location deeply-rooted in the Arabian tradition of wellbeing medicine and treatments frequently use local ingredients and oils.

The spa menu features a variety of treatments with options from 20-minute treatments through to the signature Arabian Sensory Oasis, a treatment inspired by the UAE’s ancient Bedouin rituals.

This includes a foot massage and a full dry body brushing using Arabica coffee, cardamom and sumac (which help to combat cellulite). This is followed by a cleansing facial and mild exfoliation using activated charcoal, and full body massage with circulation body oil. The treatment finishes with a calming inhalation ritual of rose water to refresh and balance.

It’s elegant, it’s indulgent and it’s a thoroughly relaxing experience that is worth the trip to the UAE’s smallest emirate.

The Time Out team went to Ajman as part of an epic UAE road trip – all seven emirates in one day.

You can see how it went down here:

Fancy a trip but can’t spare an entire weekend? Sister hotel, Fairmont Fujairah Beach Resort has launched a brand-new daycation deal and the best news is it’s only Dhs149 a person.

While you’re at it, why not book yourself in for a staycation? We’ve rounded up the best staycation deals across the UAE here.

New Dubai half-marathon announcedTim Skinnerhttps://www.timeoutdubai.com/sport-wellbeing/409754-new-dubai-half-marathon-announcedThu, 04 Jul 2019 09:47:57 +0400It’s the first we’ve heard of this year’s Dubai Fitness Challenge, and we’re starting to get in the mood for more of the city’s excellent 30x30 exercise drive.

The City Half Marathon, which will be held in October, is a brand-new addition to Dubai’s ever-growing roster of activities, as the Dubai Fitness Challenge helps make the city’s the world’s most active, and to increase exercise participation across every age group and demographic.

Last year more than 1 million Dubai residents took part in the challenge, which throws down the gauntlet to the city’s residents to participate in 30 minutes of fitness every day for 30 days. Whether it’s walking, swimming, spinning, yoga, cross fit, football or anything in between, there were more than 8,000 free activities for residents last year.

Now, the new half-marathon will take place in DIFC on Friday October 25 with a brand-new route showing off one of the world’s most important and most photographed financial districts. It will start in front of the Gate Building, and take runners and spectators through the district’s landmarks, with cracking views of the Dubai skyline throughout.

But, if you thought this was an event for the fitness enthusiasts then fear not, because 5km and 10km options will give casual runners across six different age groups the opportunity to get involved.

Participation starts from Dhs125 for the 5km run, Dhs175 for the 10km run and Dhs275 for the full 21km run.

Registration is open now, so why not get this year’s Dubai Fitness Challenge off to a running start? Visit www.hopasports.com/en/event/city-half-marathon-2019 to register.

Humidity is up, the temperature is climbing and we forget what wearing jeans is like, as we embrace a summer wardrobe when out and about.

When it comes to outdoor workouts, the heat is on, and going for a run, cycle or even a walk has got that little bit more challenging.

Helping to kep people on track with their fitness goals, the popular free training nights at Yas Marina Circuit are changing their operating hours so you can beat the heat and still workout.

Early-risers can head to Yas Marina Circuit on a Monday, Wednesday and Thursday morning to start the day with some exercise around the 5.55km track.

Until September 22 the free fitness events will take place from 5am-8am giving you the opportunity to cycle, run or walk the track in cooler temperatures.

For those who don't mind the hot weather, the Tuesday night event will continue even in the summer between 6pm and 10pm.

We're sure when the alarm goes off early for a 5am workout you'll want to hit the snooze button, but we're sure it will be worth it if you get up, get ready and head along.

Dubai hosted the AFC Asian Cup earlier this year with the recently renovated Al Maktoum Stadium holding six of the tournament's games.

The stadium also hosted English Premier League club Arsenal for a friendly against Al Nasr FC.

A formal bid by all three nations will have to be submitted by August, with the result being announced later in the year.
