Fibber Magee’s launches Dhs10 crumpets

Hot, buttered crumpets now on the menu at Dubai’s legendary Irish pub

You say, “slow news day?”, we say, pipe down.

Fibber Magee’s, one of Dubai’s best-loved Irish pubs, has put crumpets on the menu for a bargain Dhs10, and they’re available with butter, jam and (Brits, hold on to your tears-of-happiness-drenched hankies) Marmite.

The British bites join an already excellent-value breakfast menu at the tiny Irish pub, which has been a part of Dubai’s bustling bar scene since the ’90s (and we couldn’t imagine the city without it).

Breakfast is served all day at the Sheikh Zayed Road pub, starting from 8am through to closing – though if you head down for breakfast between 8am and 11am any day of the week, you’ll get 20 percent off the stated price on the menu.

So that’s a bacon, sausage or egg bap for less than Dhs20, or a full Fibber’s Breakfast – featuring bacon, egg, sausage, beans, mushrooms, hash browns, black and white pudding, egg and toast or fried bread – for less than Dhs50.

Other favourites including doorstop toasties, omelettes and a monster, not-to-be-messed with Big Breakfast Bap filled with bacon, sausage, a fried egg, black or white pudding and, erm, a slice of tomato (why not?), all at Dhs39, or Dhs31.20 before 11am.

There’s also a “Healthy Breakfast” of a pancake topped with low-fat yoghurt, granola and berries, if you’ve completely lost your mind/haven’t paid proper attention to the above.

But the bargains don’t stop with breakfast.

Other top deals at the pub include a daily lunch offer of a main and a house beverage for Dhs68 (or Dhs63 for roast or full Irish breakfast on Fridays), five drinks and one food item for Dhs158 between 4pm and 8pm on Fridays, and three house beverages and a bar snack for Dhs79 on Tuesdays from 8pm onwards.

Love it? Hate it? We’ll be the ones with yolk dribbling down our chins.
Open daily from 8am. Saeed Tower One, Sheikh Zayed Road (04 332 2400).
