Torn between tacos and tataki? Well now you can combine your love for South American cuisine with dishes from Japan.

A new pop-up at Jumeriah Al Naseem’s Summersalt restaurant is now open and promises to “fuse the artful craft of Japanese cooking with delicious flavours of South America”.

The restaurant has both indoor and outdoor seating, with views across to Burj Al Arab Jumeirah.

Umi Shio is open for lunch and dinner, with a sharing menu split between appetisers, crudo, soups, tempura, seafood and meat, created using authentic Japanese and South American ingredients such as miso, yuzu, truffle and lime.

Dishes include roasted langoustines in a sweet and sour sauce and miso caramelized eggplant to start, followed by five types of crudo from classic seabass ceviche, truffle seafood ceviche, seabass sashimi, yellowtail sashimi and salmon tataki.

Main dishes include saikyo miso black cod and white rice, grilled octopus, potato salad and salsa criolla and miso marinated sea bass.

Meat-eaters can get stuck into anticuchos, lamb chops, corn-fed chicken with teriyaki truffle sauce or wagyu beef tataki.

Desserts include a selection of mochi, cheesecake brûlée served with mandarin sorbet or espresso glace. And now our mouths are watering.

Summersalt restaurant caters for 90 diners with indoor and outdoor seating that faces out onto Madinat Jumeirah’s private beach with lovely views of the Burj Al Arab.

We can’t wait to check it out.
Prices vary. Open daily noon-5pm; 6.30pm-11pm. Jumeirah Al Naseem, Umm Suqeim (04 526 0386).
