A Friends-inspired café has officially opened in Dubai

The one where Cross Cultural Perks Cafe & Bistro comes to the city…

An avid watcher of US TV show Friends? You’ll definitely be familiar with the gang’s local café Central Perk. And now Al Seef has its very own US-inspired place to stop and natter over a cup of joe.

The brand-new Cross Cultural Perks Cafe & Bistro is now open, inspired by Central Perk from the hit TV show, except this time with an Emirati twist.

Housed at the Arabian Courtyard Hotel & Spa in Al Fahidi, the café and bistro will be open 24 hours a day, seven days a week. Which is about the amount of time we used to spend watching Friends.

The interior supposedly inspired by the ’90s show, with comfortable lounge style seating overlooking “the central downtown district”.

As for food, expect healthy Emirati- and Western-style options served à la carte such as sandwiches, salads, burgers and pasta, along with camel meat dishes. Gunther could only dream of serving that.

Cross Cultural Perks will also have “twisted tandoori Indian dishes” and “sizzling wok Asian delicacies”, with dishes served all day long.

The venue does one better than Central Perk by being fully licensed, and will have free wi-fi, indoor and outdoor seating, live sports coverage and “playback music”. Who knows, you may even hear a rendition of Smelly Cat from Phoebe Buffay (probably not, but we can dream).

“We are very excited to open and showcase this inspired concept café to relax or recharge, build a conversation, or to get connected,” said CEO of hospitality management company Planet Hospitality, Habib Khan.

“We’re confident that it will complement and contribute positively to the Al Seef cultural vicinity and provide the community with not only a community-centered café but offering quality coffee but a cross-cultural dining diversity and friendly artisan atmosphere.”

You can check out more details about the café on Instagram @crosscultureperks or on its Facebook page.

There’s plenty to do at Al Fahidi Historical Neighbourhood. Here’s a sneak peek of what we checked out.

Open 24/7. Arabian Courtyard Hotel & Spa, Al Fahidi, Bur Dubai (04 351 9111).
