A huge new 600-seat street food market is coming to Dubai, and it's promising to bring the "smells, sights, sounds and tastes" of Asia to the city.

Asian District will offer flavours from across the continent at live cooking stalls including Pad Thai Boulevard, Ramen Route and Kimchi Ville.

The sounds of local livestock, motorbikes, car horns and bicycle bells will also be pumped in to the venue at The Pointe on Palm Jumeirah to "evoke the essence" of a real market.

Chefs will recreate the flavours of China, Bangkok, Hong Kong, Taiwan, Singapore, Malaysia and Vietnam with a range of culinary delicacies from those countries.

That means you can expect everything from sushi and noodles to teppanyaki, dim sum and dumplings.

The split-level restaurant will be spread across 2,000 square metres and will also feature live performers and entertainment at random locations throughout the evening.

Asian District says guests will be left wondering "if the acts are genuine diners or authentic story-tellers", so it's safe to say we can expect a few surprises each night.

It reminds us of Streetery Food Hall in JLT, which serves up dim sum and roasted meats from across the continent in a setting that will transport you to Asia's backstreets.

Top choices there include Fat Aunt's, offering xiao long bao (that's soup dumplings) and Hing Kee where you'll find Hong Kong barbecue food.

Asian District is part of The Pointe, Nakheel’s new 1.4million sq ft entertainment and dining development that opened in December.

The destination boasts a 1.5km promenade with more than 100 restaurants and retail outlets for seafront dining and shopping.
Opening soon. The Pointe, Palm Jumeirah, thepointe.ae (04 390 9999).
