As if having Pancake Day wasn’t enough, it’s pie week and one of the city’s oldest bars is pulling out all the stops to make this year the most deep-filled pie-fest you could possibly hope for.
At the newly renovated Jumeirah Beach Hotel in Umm Suqeim, which spent five months in 2018 having a “significant makeover” (check out all the photos here), the D&A bar has announced that pie week will see four special pies hitting the menu.
Running through until Saturday March 9 (coinciding with the penultimate weekend of the Six Nations, and the bar’s dedicated big screen for the occasion), you can head along and try some frankly ludicrously impressive-looking pies (worthy, perhaps, of making our list of the best in town).
There are four pies on offer, so you can either go big and have all four in one sitting – which might nearly be as great a task as when we found the city’s toughest food challenge, or come back throughout the week.
Take your pick from either the chicken tikka masala pie with cumin coriander raita, or the slow-cooked lamb shank pie with carrots, peas and mint. Alternatively, for something a bit different, try the hot smoked salmon pie with confit potato and watercress sauce.
For dessert, if there’s room for yet more pie, try the rose, raspberry and rhubarb pie with clotted cream ice cream – how about that for a combination?
