Whether you’re looking to fulfil your five-a-day veg quota or are a long-term vegan, plant-based eating is becoming increasingly popular – both globally and right here in Dubai.

And when two of the city’s top French restaurants have a vegan menu, you know that things are getting serious.

Last year La Petite Maison in DIFC launched a plant-based menu, and now super-trendy dining spot Bistrot Bagatelle has done the same.

Farewell limp lettuce leaves, hello, haute veggie cuisine.

The new menu has plenty of tasty-sounding dishes including salad de figes, starring mixed leaves and black figs, or the signature Salade Bagatelle – made with butter leaf lettuce and fine herbs.

Want something more substantial than a salad on your next night out? There are plenty of carbier choices, too. Opt for the pizza aux champignons, topped with a lipsmackingly delicious sounding combo of roasted garlic and wild mushrooms. Not a fungi fan? The pizza aux legumes comes with sundried tomatoes, seasonal veg and salsa verde.

For fancier fare there’s poule des bois roti – josper-roasted mushrooms on a bed of olive oil mash, drizzled with lemon dressing, or le potager, grilled veg on toasted sourdough with piperade sauce. Who needs meat when veg has had such a flamboyant makeover?

And you don’t even need to miss out on dessert as there’s a bitter chocolate tart with coconut sorbet and mango purée to try.

With a fun vibe this French restaurant is best visited late to experience the party atmosphere. But whatever time you dine there’ll be something plant-based for you to tuck into. Très bon
Open daily 8pm-11pm. Fairmont Dubai, Sheikh Zayed Road (04 354 5035).
