Three vegan afternoon teas to try in Dubai

Egg mayo sandwiches, clotted cream-laden scones, all-butter pastries. While afternoon tea is a delightful traditional treat, for vegans it's often been somewhat troublesome. However, plant-based diners can now enjoy an afternoon snack at several locations in Dubai, without having to ask for any menu amendments. From full-on feasts with Burj Al Arab Jumeirah views to a quick blueberry scone to refuel in Al Quoz, here are three teas to check out this weekend.

Al Samar Lounge
This lounge at Jumeirah Mina A’Salam has just launched a brand-new tea, so vegans can enjoy the afternoon as much as everyone else, and not worry about making a fuss. It includes hummus and avocado sandwiches, chia bread bruschetta and vegan summer rolls, as well as vegan blueberry cheesecake, coconut mango chia pudding, raw date truffles and vegan scones with freshly made jam and marmalade. Even better, the views over the Madinat waterways and Burj Al Arab Jumeirah are stunning.
Dhs189 (tea), Dhs291 (with a glass of bubbly). Served daily 2.30pm-6pm. Jumeirah Mina A’Salam, Madinat Jumeirah, Umm Suqeim (04 432 3232).

This healthy spot at The Retreat Palm Dubai MGallery By Sofitel is serving up a special guilt-free, 100 percent vegan tea. Snacks include crockpot sandwich – grilled vegetables and sundried tomatoes on vegan bread – and protein burrito (a quinoa and lentil stuffed cabbage roll). Paired with sweet snacks including healthy cookies to blueberry vanilla cake, all served with signature matcha, beetroot, almond, soya and rice cappuccinos, charcoal cappuccino or tea. The hotel is the first holistic wellbeing resort in the region, so if you want a healthy treat for you and your friends, book here.
Dhs140. Served daily 2pm-6pm. The Retreat Palm Dubai MGallery By Sofitel, Palm Jumeirah (04 524 7777).

Wild & The Moon

Quirky café Wild & The Moon is a vegan dream, with everything from raw salads to cold-pressed juices. And not only does it boast a menu packed full of plant-based dishes, it’s now gone one step further as it offers up a completely vegan afternoon tea. There’s a selection of scones with jam and cashew cream if you fancy an afternoon treat surrounded by lush leafy foliage.
Prices vary. Open Sun-Thu 8am-8pm; Fri-Sat 8am-10pm. Alserkal Avenue, Al Quoz (800 9453).
