Customise a bike at Dubai’s new zero-plastic café

Sometimes we need a space that will serve you healthy grub, offers work benches to customise bikes and furniture, and is pet-friendly. Sound like what you need? Head to Kave in Al Quoz.

Alserkal Avenue’s new upcycling café, Kave: The Story of Things, is all about protecting the environment by using zero-plastic, using cutlery and crockery that are either up-cycled or recycled after use.

Kave offers simple but healthy dishes, including a bowl of pho along with freshly made roti – which guests can pay forward by buying someone else a roti.

There’s also a bundle of different workshops that take place weekly, including guitar making, embroidery lessons, meditation sessions, bottle cutting workshops and chaircycling rides.

What’s chaircycling? It’s a home-grown bike brand that’s about reducing waste by customising a bike using recycled parts to make a bike that’s an “extension of your personality.”

Cafégoers can bring in their rusty bike and have it completely remade, and then test it out so its ready to be fully used again.

That’s not all that can be repaired, as the up-cycling café also offers free-to-use work benches with tools for guests to fix their cabinet, chair, table – you name it. Roll up those sleeves and grab some coffee, it’s time to get to work.

This is also a pet-friendly café, so bring your dog along and enjoy the artsy vibes. It’s also a place that loves to hear stories, so bring a good one.

Kave is open from Monday through to Saturday from 11am until 9pm over at Warehouse 20 in Alserkal Avenue.

Sustainability is a growing trend, and Ultra Brasserie has launched a brand-new zero-waste menu, offering dishes that come from “the root to the flower and fin to tail.”

And if you’re after some more artsy vibes, World Art Dubai is coming back to the Dubai World Trade Centre for its fifth edition, featuring original art from galleries across the world.

It's time to get creative.
Open Mon-Sat 11am-9pm. Warehouse 20, Alserkal Avenue, Al Quoz www.thestoryofthings.com (055 102 4469).
