Friday brunch at Seven Sisters

When is brunch not a brunch? When it starts mid-afternoon, goes into the night and involves a heavy rotation of dishes, drinks and dancing rarely seen before 11am. And, just as Dubai transformed the time of a traditional brunch, Seven Sisters has reinvented it again.

The Beirut-hailing bar runs a four-hour feast every Friday. It’s perfectly positioned for those who like a day brunch, but still want a lie in, a home-cooked brekkie, enough time to tick off that early morning Pilates class and even chance to top up the tan by the pool. It runs from 3pm to 7pm, meaning this Friday doesn’t involve squeezing into heels and plastering on full face of war paint at a ghastly 11.30am (meaning it also isn’t going to end with us snoring on the sofa before sunset with a belly full of carbs).

Brace yourself for a hefty walk, it’s not easy to find. Strut down to 1OAK, passing Café Artois and Bridgewater Tavern, the
WH Smith and The Lounge, head outdoors, pass the cordoned off construction area, spin 180 degrees, ascend the wooden stairs and voila: Seven Sisters emerges. It’s a long road to happiness and, trust us, this is one journey that’s well worth it.

The open-air space is a mix of low down sofa seating, high up bar stools, comfy booths, two savoury live cooking stations and an ice cream maker, a huge bar, DJ booth and Canal views.

Food rolls out of the kitchen at top speed and has a clean, simple and tasty approach.

Well-executed sushi, edamame and an heirloom tomato salad, beef ribs, beef sliders and chicken skewers. There is no soft drinks option so it can be pricey, however, those punting for the house beverages package will be rewarded with top mixed drinks and grape options (but unusually no hops).

The house DJ spins a mix of hip-hop and chart toppers before roaring: “Are you ready for a brunch like no other?” The chorus of “whoops” and cheers says it all, this isn’t your ordinary brunch.
