We’ve long waxed lyrical about Project Chaiwala’s chilli-cheese toast (so much so it made it into our 50 best dishes of the year, so far, 2019), and the good news for (chai-) and cheese-lovers is there’s another branch in the city in which to dig into the spicy sarnie.

The home-grown tea shop, which started out tucked away in independent film hub Cinema Akil in Dubai’s artsy area Alserkal Avenue, is now open in Dubai Media City.

The team hope that the new venue will be the “perfect setting for a catch up over a quick bite in a creative space that gets the ideas flowing over a cup of freshly brewed chai”.

Project Chaiwala uses ethically-sourced ingredients from organic tea gardens, and its menu draws inspiration from around the world – from karak spots in Bur Dubai to the spices in Delhi markets.

Signature drinks include karak chai – the company’s secret blend of flavours including spicy cardamom, fresh Darjeeling tea leaves and milk. And if you visit between 3pm until 4pm any day until Sunday September 15 you’ll be able to grab a cuppa on the house.

Other drinks on the menu include masala chai, zaffarani chai and matcha latte.

Meanwhile alongside that famed chili-cheese toast (Dhs20) you can also get peanut butter and Nutella chai toast, or avocado and eggs chai toast. There are also a range of wraps and salads.

The new restaurant has plenty of natural light as well as low sofas and booths for catch-ups and work meetings.

Looks like we've found an excuse to get out of the office.
Open Sun-Thu 8am-8pm, Fri-Sat 9am-6pm. Building 7, Dubai Media City, www.projectchaiwala.com (04 526 0859).
