If you watched the final of MasterChef UK Season 11 back in 2015 and couldn’t take your eyes off the winner’s superb dessert, you’re for quite the sweet treat.

Celebrity UK chef and winner of MasterChef UK Simon Woods is setting up shop at Dubai’s very own MasterChef, the TV Experience. Knives and forks at the ready, then.

Taking place from Monday September 30 until Friday October 4, the celebrity chef will be taking over the kitchen to cook up a special five-course menu from 5pm until 7pm each day.

You’ll have to be quick on your feet, as only a maximum of ten guests will be served at ever ‘Wood Masterclass’ session. Better get booked.

The sessions are priced at Dhs489 for soft drinks, and Dhs649 with house beverages with your special meal. Just in it for the dishes? The food-only option is priced Dhs240.

As for the grub you’re in for, the five-course menu starts with asparagus panna cotta amuse bouche, which includes wild asparagus, shelled peas, Parmesan foam, panko Parmesan crumb and micro thyme. And it’s followed by a wagyu tartare starter, with wagyu tartare, oyster emulsion salty fingers, sea purslane, onion embers and coal coil.

Definitely save space for the mains, with a choice of two dishes including the roasted monkfish with oxtail ragu, boasting roasted monkfish, oxtail ragu, oyster mushroom cream, pickled shimeji, trompette de la mort, white chanterelle.

There’s also artichoke and celeriac risotto, including sunchokes, Granny Smith apples, celeriac risotto, white Stilton gnocchi, linseed and chervil.

For desserts, expect strawberry shortcake amouse gueule with strawberry sorbet, dehydrated meringue and shortbread.

As for the crème de le crème – Wood’s epic Citrus Tutti-Frutti (lemon posset, ruby grapefruit gel, burnt grapefruit, tuile, verbena) – the dessert that saw him crowned Master Chef UK champion in 2015.

“After flying to Dubai in April for the opening of the first-ever MasterChef, the TV Experience restaurant, I’ve spent the past couple of months trialling different dishes that I believe will appeal to the city’s cosmopolitan population of discerning diners,” said Wood.

“It’s a real honour to be invited to host a residency at the restaurant – I’m sure it’s going to take me right back to 2015 when we filmed the show, especially as the dessert I’m serving is the same one I created for judges during the final cook-off.”
