Time Out Says
The venue is a stunner. Colourful, quirky interiors brighten the dining room downstairs, while the lounge upstairs is super-sophisticated. It’s the terrace, looking out over the shoreline and the whole of La Mer that really wows, though.
The welcome couldn’t be better, talking us through the slightly confusing menu. There are sections for cold plates, small plates (split into Of The Sea and Of The Earth), more small plates (split into The Poultry Mix and The Reds) sides and Sweet Talk.
Thankfully there are also three set menu options, each with a different mix from across all the sections. We’re recommended to order four or five dishes each, so going for these keeps things simple and seems decent value, at between Dhs340 and Dhs350 for eight dishes for two people.
After ordering the service falls off a cliff and the food, which is all brilliant individually, suffers as a result. The timing is all off, meaning we have huge breaks between courses before a flurry of dishes arrive all at once, leaving us rushed and overwhelmed. It’s a shame, as dishes such as the tuna bhel tartare, Brussels sprouts with mustard, soy, ginger and hazelnuts, pulled tandoori chicken bao and smoked espresso chicken wings are among some of the most exciting things we’ve eaten in a very long time.
A Lotus (they’re not going away just yet) tiramisu provides a sweet ending to the meal, albeit a rather un-Indian one.
The lounge also specialises in mixed drinks and super mocktails, though they will push the final bill up considerably.
Almost brilliant, but work on the service is needed.
The bill (for two)
1x Cool India (set menu for two) Dhs345
1x large still water Dhs24
1x Royal T mocktail Dhs45
Total (excluding service) Dhs414
The bottom line
Super food, frustrating service.
