Though the food here is fine, service is poor and the setting is unimpressive. The terrace has mediocre fountain views, with tightly crammed and tiny tables. Unfortunately, this is still a more pleasant setting than inside, where the atmosphere is drab and dull. Food is hit and miss. Pizzas are very good – baked in a stone oven and with that all-important crispy base – and seafood appetisers are both fresh and well-seasoned, but pastas are unfortunately bland and disappointing. There are a few meat and fish dishes, plus a nice dessert menu featuring the likes of chocolate mousse, panna cotta and tiramisu as well as some less traditional creations like strawberry and tomato with vanilla Chantilly and roasted hazelnuts. It’s really the setting that lets this place down, as well as the high prices that come as standard in Souk Al Bahar.
