Time Out Says
With locations in Karama and Discovery Gardens, this Indian restaurant has both ends of the city covered when it comes to the appams for which it’s named. To the uninitiated, these are bowl-shaped pancakes filled (and served) with all manner of accompaniments, from mutton keema to butter paneer, and even Nutella (there really is no escaping the ubiquitous, sickly spread in this town).
But it’s the biryanis we keep going back for, packed with heat and fragrant spices, and a delicious minefield of cardamom pods. Veggies are well looked after, too – the veg special meal (served thali-style, only during lunchtimes) arrives on that aforementioned banana leaf, featuring a range of dishes of the day.
At under Dhs20, it’s an absolute steal and a great way to sample a variety of flavours in one single sitting, without the compulsive over-ordering trying a new cuisine can prompt.
Wash it all down with a mango lassi and thank us later.
