From Time Out Dubai Eating Out 2011This isn’t a restaurant you just stumble upon; buried in the dozens of restaurants on Al Muteena Street it blends in, look out for the bright red and white takeaway style lighting box with Arabic writing (and the English restaurant name in small print underneath). The decor itself is basic Iraqi cafeteria style with an open fire grill, shelves of ornaments and a muddy brown tile theme – but you don’t go here for the decor. Dishes include items you’d typically find in a Middle Eastern eatery including houmous, fattoush, home-cooked bread and a flawlessly prepared tabbouleh.
Here you’ll also find traditional teshreeb (fatteh) with optional lamb or chicken, expect hearty soggy bread, chickpeas and a mild tangy casserole sauce. Specialties include their charcoal grill dishes - lamb chops, meat shawarma and a fresh selection of kebabs such as the baghadi kebab and chicken tikka. If you order a main it should come with a choice of side salads including greens, pickles, beetroot, coleslaw, bread and soup – there’s easily enough if two are sharing a main.
