Time Out Says

The Byblos may not be the swankiest of Dubai hotels, but this lobby restaurant has a rustic charm. Faux-antique distressed wooden chairs and stereotypical images of famous Italian attractions create a relaxed, congenial atmosphere. The friendly staff – confusingly dressed in what appear to be traditional Bavarian costumes – are also an attribute, joking merrily with guests. The menu covers the standard Italian classics, with wood-fired pizzas, a choice of risottos along with fresh pastas, meat and fish. Despite large murals of tomatoes, fake olives, bucolic chalk boards displaying the day’s specials, along with an incongruous illuminated neon green water feature (playfully referred to by one of the staff as ‘The Dubai Fountain’), it still feels a little like a cafeteria. Thankfully, the prices reflect this lack of refinement and are competitive in comparison to similar offerings in the city. While the food may need some tweaking, this Italian serves tasty fare and at this price it offers excellent value if you’re in the area.
