Time Out Says

Tucked away in the Sofitel Dubai Downtown is a classy, new Lebanese-Armenian dining spot.

Al Mayass is welcoming, comfy, and the food is good. If you’re hoping for a traditional atmosphere along with the classic dishes it serves, you may wish to look elsewhere, though. While the boutique restaurant prides itself on its “generations-old recipes” the feel to this space is decidedly contemporary.

The vibe distracts slightly from a menu so authentic it requires translation and some explaining.

That said, the staff are very happy to talk through and recommend dishes to suit all tastes. An expert touch.

The variety we experience is beautifully balanced, but the range of flavours is diverse, from the smoky baba ganoush to the fresh, light tabbouleh to the spicy lamb kibbeh sajiyeh. Make sure you try the cheesy beureg jebneh, too. It’s a real treat. Expect traditional grills for vegetarians and carnivores alike, but it really is difficult not to opt for a spread of the plethora of mezze dishes listed – the price for the plentiful spread we order is a snip at Dhs250.

We also recommend enjoying the trademark view of the Burj Khalifa while dining out on the rooftop – weather permitting.

The bottom line
Brilliant mezze, comfy vibe and cracking views.
