Yemeni food in the heart of Deira
Time Out Says
From Time Out Dubai Eating Out 2010Ever tried Yemeni food? No? Well, we hadn’t either until Al Tawasol popped up on our radar. The food is tasty, good value and offers enough twists on more familiar Middle Eastern fare to keep less adventurous punters happy. Al Tawasol looks pretty unassuming from the outside, but step across the threshold and you step into somewhere a little out of the ordinary. The main dining area is separated into male and female areas, where guests sit cross-legged on the floor, scooping food from metal trays with their hands. For those wanting to dine with the opposite sex, waiters will lead you towards the secluded majlis area at the back, where you can settle into a private tent. The house speciality is mandi – marinated chicken or lamb that falls off the bone at the merest prod of the fork. It’s not going to win any prizes for innovation, but if you’re after a delicious, filling meal, this is just the ticket.
