Time Out Says

We often talk about institutions in this relatively youthful city – but this no frills Iranian restaurant could hardly be described as anything else. After all, how many restaurants have really been going in the city for more than 40 years? That’s almost as old as this great United Arab Emirates itself.

And key to Al Ustad Special Kebab’s longevity is its chargrilled meats, served with character by the extremely personable staff.
Decked out in photographs of past diners and the restaurant’s late proprietor, this canteen-style Bur Dubai diner is as packed with stories as it is incredible aromas. Let the staff guide you on what to order – because with food this good, they simply can’t get it wrong. And make sure you start with a thick, hearty, meaty bowl of Iranian lentil soup – a cure-all if there ever was one.

A feast for two will set you back a little over Dhs100, though be prepared (at times) to queue for a table. Don’t worry – it’s totally worth it.
