Time Out Says
On the doorstep of Dubai’s business capital, Alfie’s is in a constant battle to maintain the interest of the besuited masses of DIFC for lunchtime and post-work dining. This elegant Emirates Towers eatery is named and styled for the British entrepreneur Alfred Dunhill, the man behind the neighbouring Dunhill luxury men’s brand. All warm woods and leather, it’s a living monument to the gentleman’s clubs at which the marvellously moustached man himself would surely have enjoyed his post-meal cigars in the early 20th century. Though you may have expected more of an open-air feel from the terrace that faces the building’s Boulevard, it actually serves as a reminder that you are dining in a mall-locked restaurant. A tight menu features excellent British fare such as grilled classics and fish and chips, while the daily special varies from Saturday roast to Hyderabadi-style curry (ask nicely and the kitchen staff may even whip up an off-day choice, as they did on our last visit). A lack of vegetarian main course options may not be a huge surprise at this chic man-cave of a restaurant, though salads on the starter menu are both refreshing and satisfying.
