Up on the 51st floor of Jumeirah Emirates Towers, Alta Badia offers some of the best views around. Inside, however, the decor and layout could do with a bit of an update, but it’s by no means an unpleasant place to dine. It’s also not the most expensive Italian in town, despite its setting, thanks to the generous set menus. The Aperidinner, for example, includes a small selection of cicchetti, a pre-dinner drink, a main and a dessert, all for just Dhs199. And the choice of mains is intriguing, with options such as pasta, risotto, seafood and meat dishes. If you do opt for the meat dishes, you can expect to try the likes of chestnut-stuffed guinea fowl with savoy cabbage or a white and black cavatelli pasta with clams, mussels and cherry tomatoes. There’s also a degustation menu available with grape pairing. The regular a la carte menu is one of the more creative in the city. Expect, for example, salads with beetroot, herbs, raspberries, yoghurt and edible flowers, plus a beautiful green pea soup with sundried tomato tortellini, ricotta and olives. Dishes like the pumpkin gnocchi are also worth seeking out, as are the simply prepared fish and meat options, like braised veal shank with bone marrow, gremolata and saffron risotto. Staff are wonderful with children, but the dining area also offers enough space for couples to dine in peace and quiet. It may not be the fanciest of venues, but it’s worth a visit for the food.
