Time Out Says

when dubai’s winter is in full swing there’s no better pastime than sitting outside, sipping on a cool drink and ordering up some tasty grub. And if you’re looking for somewhere new to check out, add Americano to your list.

If you’ve visited Souk Madinat Jumeirah in recent weeks you’ll have noticed the waterside area has been expanded, with a new deck set out into the water creating loads more space for tables.

Americano – alongside Trattoria Toscana and Taverna – has benefited from this new Souk Boardwalk and has plenty of seating utside under the canopies, perfect for people-watching and relaxing.

Inside the restaurant is retro in styling, with an old-fashioned vibe and furnishings. But really, you’re better off on that deck.

For the area Americano isn’t eye-wateringly expensive either, and it’s worth stopping in for a lazy lunch – especially if you have tourists in tow.

Food-wise the menu is a bit eclectic – expect a variety of US-style dishes, from tacos to burgers and steaks, as well as Middle Eastern cuisine including harissa chicken and beetroot hummus, as well as Brit staples like fish and chips.

We kick things off with shrimp tacos, which come presented in a stainless steel Statue of Liberty taco caddy, which is a cool touch. They taste as good as they look, too. Stuffed full of crispy veg and juicy prawns, and layered with spicy sauce.

We’re recommended the burgers, which come in steamed buns, so opt for the chicken version. It’s tasty enough, though we’re not convinced by the signature bun, which is a little sticky and cloying. There’s a large selection though, including the Beyond Burger for veggies and a mac ’n’ cheese version.

If you’re looking for something lighter, the seared tuna Niçoise salad is fresh and tasty.

And we’d recommend light as you absolutely want to order pudding here. The chocolate brownie is one of the best desserts we’ve had in a long while – piled high with vanilla ice cream and lashings of hot chocolate fudge sauce. It’s the perfect degree of gooey. We’ll be back for the puds alone.
