Time Out Says
It’s possible that some expats in Dubai will go through their entire time in the UAE without trying genuine local food. With Aseelah, that could be about to change. The restaurant, in Deira’s Radisson Blu Hotel, has a menu that puts Emirati dishes front and centre. The menu is filled with recipes gathered by the hotel’s director of kitchens Uwe Micheel, who has spent years visiting homes in Dubai and learning about the food eaten by generations of families. Cleverly, the menu is split into two halves, one featuring traditional dishes, the other more modern, using ingredients found in the Emirates. The beetroot carpaccio is sure to be a favourite. The sweet, thin slices are brought to life with lemon and an inventive tahini laban. The almond and parsnip soup is a creamy, comforting, spicy bowl of goodness, and while we’ll never love harees (blended meat and grains), topping it with melted mozzarella is a masterstroke. The Arabian lobster is a stunning dish, beautifully presented and a real showcase of Emirati flavours and ingredients. It’s a great example of the restaurant.
