Time Out Says

From the minute you step out of the lift at this Pier 7 restaurant the spectacle begins at Asia Asia. Candlelit Oriental statues adorn the walls at the entrance, while a water feature and wind chimes create a serene ambiance – although it is buzzing when you get inside.

Asia Asia is consistently heaving, so book ahead to secure a table on the terrace – a sweeping balcony overlooking Dubai Marina with yachts parked up below and glittering lights as far as the eye can see.

The view is spectacular – as is the sleek and stylish décor with its sophisticated oriental theme, complete with low lighting, dark interiors and chrome light fixings.

Service is a bit on the slow side, but with the gorgeous ambiance you won’t be too fussed on having to wait.

The menu is split into seafood, sushi, small plates, skewers and mains, and the selection is excellent. The dim sum basket is a must-try – particularly the creamy sweet potato – and the 12-spice calamari is crispy and well-seasoned.

The highlight, though, is the rib-eye teriyaki with roasted kabocha, parsnip mayo and glazed ancho chilli. The tender chunks are infused with the rich and tangy flavour of the teriyaki and taste phenomenal.

It’s clear why Asia Asia is a permanent fixture on our awards lists – it really is one of the best venues in the city.

The bottom line:
Top dishes in a classy venue with stunning views
