Time Out Says

From Time Out Dubai Eating Out 2008

Getting to Awafi is something of a mission, as there’s the journey to traffic-choked Deira to contend with. It’s worth the effort, though, and you’ll be almost horizontal before you know it courtesy of the traditional Arabic low seating scattered around the poolside and the shisha on offer.

The entire ethos here seems to be geared towards putting you at ease, and the friendly service and the stunning views of Dubai’s night sky are guaranteed to calm any lingering frazzled nerves. The (mostly Lebanese) cuisine is no slouch either.

Highlights include moist stuffed vine leaves and finely diced and zesty fattoush. A hot assorted mezze basket is also an agreeable option, with the spinach sambusak a real highlight of this particular mixed bag.

The juices are also well worth sampling – a lemon and mint concoction is as bracing as a winter promenade along a British beach – and are the perfect accompaniment to food that ranks among the most impressive and reasonably priced Arabic fare in the city.
