Bar Baar

Fresh Indian sharing bites with laid-back yet lively vibes

Time Out Says

The Music Room closed last year and it’s fair to say we were pretty devastated – then along came Bar Baar and all was right again with the world.

The Time Out Dubai-award winner was an institution on the live music scene, after 12 years of providing a venue for up-and-coming artists. When it was replaced by Bar Baar in February we were dubious, but certainly not for long.

The Indian “social gastropub” is low-key with an industrial feel and is absolutely buzzing.

The décor is urban and mechanical, with high tables, exposed lighting and some eye-catching street art. Tables are lined up in front of a pretty sizeable stage where live music is played a few times a week – and the food is also completely showstopping.

If you’re feeling indecisive, opt for sharing plates, which come loaded with samosas, chicken tikka, vegetable cutlets and masala chai.

The food arrives fast, fresh and tastes phenomenal. The chicken is succulent and the flaky casing of the samosas gives way to delicious curried vegetables within.

You’ll be full to burst, but don’t leave just yet – with the vibe and music it would be a shame not to make a night of it.

The bottom line
A lively venue with top grub.
