Betawi Café

A longstanding Dubai favourite for Indonesian food

Time Out Says

Bringing the authentic taste of Indonesia to Dubai since 2007, Betawi has rightfully cemented its place on the list of greats.

If you’re not au fait with Indonesian cooking – chicken satay aside – you’ll be in safe hands asking the friendly and helpful staff for recommendations.

Go for the nasi goreng or nasi padang and prepare for mouthfuls of spice and punchy, aromatic flavours. It’s authentic and delicious. Portion sizes are generous, the décor is basic and staff are always helpful.

Operating in Karama since 2007, Betawi has made a name for itself as a place to dine on authentic Indonesian dishes. In 2016, the restaurant expanded to JLT, where it knocks out equally impressive cooking with some outside seating overlooking the lakes.

Dishes are always full of flavour and filling, and certainly won’t leave a hole in your wallet. Couples, make that very hungry couples, can feast like royalty for well under Dhs150.

However, Betawi is always popular – which is always a good sign – and has a steady stream of delivery drivers picking up orders, scooting away, scooting back and repeating.

While there’s nothing wrong with sitting on your sofa bingeing on boxsets and takeaway Betawi, we insist making the effort to eat out here – it really is that good.
