Time Out Says
BiCE Mare’s interiors are beautiful: grey-veined white marble, mirror, stainless steel, crisp white tables, splashes of cobalt and glinting grape glasses. Service is attentive, the menu is long and well thought-out, and food is enjoyable (though presentation could be more imaginative). So, BiCE Mare should be a home run. It has everything going for it. But the prices are simply too high. Shellfish starters are meaty and fresh, as are fish fillets like the turbot. Seafood is their speciality and it’s all lovely, however, it’s not particularly memorable. The fettucine cacio e pepe, to give it due credit, features fresh, home-made pasta and is delicious. But is it worth a price well north of Dhs100? We’re talking here about a dish that has roughly two ingredients: cream and cheese. Perhaps we could justify it if the truffle shavings were generous, but they aren’t. When the bill arrives, you can’t help but feel it hasn’t been worth it. Romance and fountain views can be found elsewhere in Souk Al Bahar, and, ultimately, the food is what should make you throw down your wallet and exclaim, “never mind the cost, that was fantastic”. Unfortunately, it’s not quite good enough.
