Traditional French restaurant in Deira with good comfort food
Time Out Says
From Time Out Dubai Eating Out 2011If you’re not quite sure what to expect when venturing out for a meal at an Ibis hotel, the first glimpse of Bistro Domino’s surprisingly stylish décor should help to reassure. Eschewing the Disneyland approach of some of the city’s French cafés, the venue boasts a super-slick black, white and gold colour scheme, but with some subtle Parisian touches (monochrome-tiled floor, polished café chairs, colour-contrasting berets on the walls). If there’s one niggle, it’s that the overhead lighting is a little harsh; some softer candlelight would do wonders for the ambience.
The menu doesn’t hold too many surprises, but the simple meat, poultry and fish dishes are carefully prepared and thoughtfully presented, with green beans, Dauphinoise potatoes and the skinniest of skinny French fries adding the perfect Gallic touch. Be sure to round off the meal with one of the delightful desserts – this is one of the only places in Dubai that offers authentic îles flottantes (‘floating islands’), a typically French meringue-and-custard concoction. Bon appetit!
