Quirky take on Indian food in a cool, beachfront setting

Time Out Says

Since undergoing a rebrand last year, Bombay Bungalow (formerly House of Curry) now has fresh décor and a new menu.

Inside it’s vibrant and quirky, with bright turquoise furnishings. Meanwhile the large outdoor terrace is the ideal place for a spot of people-watching.

The menu boasts a range of dishes, from the standard (chicken tikka masala, lamb rogan josh, samosas), to the far less familiar (burrata butter chicken, anyone?).

We’ve talked about that unusual combo before, so there’s no chance we’re missing out on tasting it. And we’re pleasantly surprised. The decadent dish is rich and creamy, but not in a cheesy way, with the burrata adding extra depth to the traditional curry.

We can’t manage the whole bowl, though.

We also try the guac pani puri, as we can never resist avocado. It’s fresh, light, bursting with flavour and is the perfect Indian-Latino combo. Giant mustard prawns are also tangy and tasty.

When we’ve spoken to chef Hari Nayak in the past, he has said that he’s merely looking at ways to “elevate” dishes with these twists. And we think it works. It’s fun, interesting and more importantly, it tastes good.

Prices are on the steep side, which you’d expect from the location, but it’s unique and certainly worth a visit.

The bottom line
Innovative, fun, and extremely tasty.
